About one-fourth of this content consisted of "lite" versions of ''Legacy'' areas and plotlines, but most was unique to ''Retro''. With this news, the team plotted out three major expansions, as well as a few smaller ones, for the future. Following some coding magic, the development team was able to add a large amount of new content to the game despite having to essentially hack it to get updates done.
''Retro'' would see a few unsuccessful releases before its official release in September 2018. This project, as a whole, would be called '' Universe''.
With the change of plans, '' Legacy''s focus shifted from being a private server for the original version of the game to a fully reimagined version of, with ''Retro'' serving as a stopgap until Legacy's full release. Closed alpha testing for the new private server with the original client, '' Retro'', was set for late-January. In 2016, the FFL team revealed that, with some help, they were able to create a new server with the original client as it was right before the Birthday Bash. Originally, ''Legacy'' aimed to start a private server with a rebuilt version of the game. After the petitions didn't lead to an official revival, more earnest attempts to start private servers came to light in 2015 with '' Legacy'' (also headed by Baker) taking the lead. On April 16, 2020, FFU, whose Twitter account had been changed to ‘The Universe Team’, announced that Cartoon Network had filed a DMCA takedown request, which the team agreed to, leading to FusionFall Retro being shut down and FusionFall Legacy being cancelled as it was also confirmed that the team's fan projects, social media, and web services would no longer be hosted in any capacity.] The most notable of these, Devan Baker's ''Project: Revive'', was actually discussed with the Cartoon Network developers and rejected due to a rapidly decaying player count.
Retro Gamemaster Przzy clarified that FusionFall Universe was searching for new members to join the Retro team so they could be trained on how to develop the game, so the project could come out of hiatus. This announcement caused an uproar in the community, and caused multiple users to leave the community. This halted development of the Time Squad Part 2 Update, and the Retro Expansion Update. He also announced his, Dogon's, and Womayhem's departure from FusionFall Universe. On April 6, 2020, the director of FusionFall Retro, Devan Baker, announced that due to "key members of the team no longer being able to provide the necessary resources", FusionFall Retro would not be receiving any more content updates for the foreseeable future.
On September 27, 2018, the Past Area was released, making the entire original game playable, with new content being planned and released in the months and years following.įrom then on, FusionFall Universe worked on developing and supporting FusionFall Retro, while continuing development on FusionFall Legacy in the dark. On August 5, 2018, the Future (Sneak Peek) Area was released, along with missions, nanos, online play and chat. Soon after, with the addition of a Retro section to the forums, the organization rebranded themselves as FusionFall Universe.Ī demo of Retro that included the tutorial was released in the days following August 1, 2017, after database issues hampered the originally intended date. In late December, the FusionFall Legacy team announced the development of FusionFall Retro, which would take the place of the Legacy demo, which was cancelled following Retro's announcement, along with the pre-registration program.
However, in mid October, it was announced that the demo would be delayed again, as the team decided to re-built the gameworld to be far more accurate to the original game, and so it could be optimized for players with older hardware. In late September, a character creation program was released by the developers so players could create and pre-register their characters for the upcoming demo. The demo was then pushed back to October. In early September, a trailer for the demo was released, with the release date being moved up to that month. Numerous devblogs followed, which showed plans to add many new NPC's, areas, nanos, and many other elements to the game. On February 6th, 2015, a FusionFall fan by the name of Devan Baker had gathered together a development team to create FusionFall Legacy.Īt FusionFall Legacy's announcement, the dev team also announced that there would be a demo of the game available on November 23rd.Īn official forum for FusionFall Legacy opened on March 6th, and on March 14th, the first devblog was posted. The organization that would eventually become FFU started with the FusionFall Legacy development team.
